Reasons to Rejoice

This fall has been a blessed time for the students at CCF here in Ames.  At the fall retreat, Becky Saboe talked to the girls in her women’s Bible study and let them know of her interest in being obedient to Christ through baptism.  She was baptized outside in freezing weather and freezing water. . .but the warmth and joy of the experience will be something all of us present will rejoice in for a long time to come.  A month later, Andrew Brodie and Winston Chappell both were baptized on the same Sunday morning at two different churches here in Ames.  Andrew was baptized at North Grand Church of Christ, and  Winston was baptized about two hours earlier at Cornerstone Church.  We rejoice with them as they died with Christ and rose with Christ to a new life.  God is moving in some very exciting ways this year, and we give Him the praise and the glory!

Can We Bring A Little Light to Your Service

CCF would like to help you and encourage your church? How?

Do you need a preacher?  Maybe your minister is going on vacation or you are between  ministers. CCF Campus Ministers can help you out.  They are available to fill your pulpit on Sunday mornings!  This is a great way to introduce your church to CCF for the first time!

How about some fresh faces and enthusiasm to spark your worship service?   Our college students would enjoy a chance to share with you during your worship service.  Testimonies, preaching, music and drama are all areas of gifts and talents our students are developing.

Is  your mission program looking for a nearby mission to be a part of?  CCF would love to talk to your mission committee, your Sunday evening service, your special fellowship meetings about this growing and exciting work and how you can become partners in this mission to Iowa’s university campuses.

A Moment with Jaime. . .

It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to introduce myself to many of you for the first time.  My name is Jaime Woodburn, a senior in anthropology at Iowa State University.  I’ve been involved with CCF for almost two years now, and would like to say that it has been an experience that I will treasure forever because of the spiritual growth which has taken place within me during that time. Experiencing that growth myself has truly played a part in the role I’ve wished to play as an intern with CCF.  To see students turning to God for their source of love is truly fulfilling.

Trying to find a good place to start this article did not come easily for me.  I sat at my desk, and I was thinking:  “I’m supposed to be writing this article for the CCF newsletter, but all I can do is feel my heart beating inside of me.”  First, I thought, “Yeah, Jaime...that’s exactly what they want to hear from you...more of your ‘deep’ thoughts!”  (That’s a joke, really, you can laugh.)  Then I decided, “No, that is really what I want to tell them because it’s not as simple as it seems.

In the Old Testament, Exodus 25:8 ,9, it says, “I want the people of Israel to build me a sacred residence where I can live among them.  You must make this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the plans I will show you.”

But, because of the new covenant that the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ establishes in the New Testament we know that the Holy Spirit makes His sacred residence within us in a very intimate way.  Not simply among us, but He dwells within us, our bodies are temples.  And the furnishings are not building materials or pieces of furniture, but rather I look at them as the contents of our hearts.   Each day, our hearts should yearn to grow and develop into a deeper relationship with God by talking to Him, and  seeking His glory even in situations where it is difficult for us.  How often do you allow God to remind you that He dwells within you?  Even if it is simply taking a moment to feel your heart beat.  God bless you all.
